Access at York Barbican
By letting us know your access requirements we will, where possible, seat you appropriately.
York Barbican has step-free access into the auditorium, meeting rooms and bars. The first floor is accessible via a lift. Please see below for information about accessible seating in the auditorium.
Our standard auditorium seating has a measurement of 450mm - 480mm between armrests, which are in a fixed position. The widest seats are found in the stall N 1-14 & N 40-53 and balcony E1-13 & E 38-50.
The height of each step on the lower level is approx. 5".
We have a Sennheiser hearing assistance system. Packs for this are available from the Box Office, or from your nearest steward. Please note, this system will not work with standard hearing aids without the packs.
Where patrons with disabilities need a carer to assist and attend an event, the combined cost will be equivalent to the full cost of one ticket.
Accessible Seating
Wheelchair spaces are located on Balcony Level in the ‘slips’ and in Stalls on either row A or row AA, whichever is the front row.
Level access seating is located on Balcony row A and Stalls rows A, AA and BB (where rows AA and BB are present). Each row B and above on both Stalls and Balcony involves 2 shallow steps.
Priority Accessible Seats are available to book for those who require level access. These seats also have extra legroom and are suitable for those with assistance dogs or who normally require an aisle seat.
Accessible Booking
For most of our events, accessible seating can be booked on 01904 313297 and on the AXS website. You may be asked to provide eligibility documentation, more information can be found here.
