Booking Fees

All ticket sales through Eventim are subject to a service charge and a possible handling charge; these amounts are set in relation to the ticket price. Ticket sales via the York Barbican Ticket Office are also subject to a service charge.

The booking fee charged per ticket pays for the technology infrastructure, telephone lines, credit/debit card processing fees, distribution network, merchant charges, labour and other costs associated with arranging and managing a ticket inventory and servicing a ticket transaction, including the handling and processing of cash by our team from transaction through to banking process. York Barbican do not have our own ticketing platform; we hire these services from Eventim, who give us the means and the technology required to process tickets for patrons at our box office here in York.

In common with any business, the Barbican reviews its service provision and pricing from time to time but always looks to benchmark favourably with other UK venues and theatres. In light of this and in the interest of customer equality, we are now ensuring that the total amount paid by customers is the same, irrespective of whether they are paying by credit/debit card, cheque or cash. We always advise our customers to check our current prices and event listings when they are looking to purchase a ticket from our box office.

A venue facility fee of 55p per ticket is now in place. The venue facility fee covers the increased property rates introduced by central government in 2017 and the extensive security measures added for public safety.
